My female is now 17 weeks as eager as i am to bring her home, I have resisted on advice from my breeder (who i can fully recomend) he says wait till she is 22-24 weeks old, she has been fully parent reared and has only seen 1 human at ringing time Every thing is prepared at home
My biggest worry is she will be a screamer and living on a small estate it does carry a burden of noise problem any help would be very welcome thanks

hey bob,

your bredders rocomended 22-24 weeks thats sound advice but if its a screamer at 17 weeks its gonna be at 22 or 24 or 36 its only wen people start taking them at 12 and 13 weeks the **** hits the fan. also to minimise risk of the bird scream dont always get your food from the same place or even better dont let the bird see you getting food and try not to get into too many regular routines. because the harris being clever reconises this and response with the scream not wat you want!

all the best

Theirs some good advice their.Whats the secret well thats a book in itself.I've had harris hawks that scream and then stop in their second year and I've had harris hawks that started to scream at 7 months .so what is the answer.Well in my opinion just take your time .Dont drop your birds weight to fast .And make sure that you have a different routine with the bird from day to day. Handle the bird but dont feed it on the glove ,The next day do so.Feed him in his weathering ,the next day feed him outside on the grass. This works for me .Bu they theirs no written rules.

Hi Bob

My Male Harris does screem a lot, but its not the end of the world, you learn to manage the screeming to an extent. The main time my bird screems is just as im getting ready to take him out, so i prepare as much as i can before he sees me, the only thing I cant do is put him out on the lawn for long before he has been fed, but after a feed or flight/food he's fine.

My advice would be to take it slow (hard I know) follow all the good advice above, and use the time between now and starting to hunt to seek out land with a lot to catch. make freinds with a ferreter (is that what you call them) so you can show your bird quarry from day one. Its important that they kill early. I think this is partly where I went wrong, good Luck, I think you have a lot going for you in the way the bird has been reared, Cheers Mark

i got my male harris at 15 weeks and  its been fine, but ive noticed  that when i go to the shed  which has a alarm  on it  he calls a  few times. i will say if the bird can see you in doors  that seems tostart them off i had to put a gate  which seems to have stopped that
