I have now had abbey 5 days, what power they have for their size she ripps the food from my hand as easy as pie, Grip as hard as i do a rabbits leg just gets devowerd in 2 mins its great to watch I read in one book somtimes a harris might get a fright when it first sees a dummy rabbit so i let abbey see a rabbit just killed from a mate of mine and after 10 mins she wanted to have a go at jumping to it She has kept her weight around 2 lb 9 oz and it seems is very content with her food intake keep you posted with her progress Tomorrow is the 1st try at jumping to the fist for food thanks bob
just spotted your other post, 2lb 10 fat weight, your well lucky to be getting a response after dropping just one ounce, the best I've ever had was a male who came out at 1lb 9 and flew at 1lb 6 1/2. If you can get her flying around 1lb 7 or 8 she'll be well powerfull.
shaun thanks for the reply to say im chuffed is a understatement at 6pm she has devoured a big rat and a good size rabbit front leg by jumping a full leash lenght to my fist im so excited im a sensible 46 yr old buisness guy who is acting like a 10 yr old with a new toy
Responsibility of keeping a bird of prey is and should always be bird 1st and yourself 2nd remembering it relies on you for its life ive learnt such a lot in the last few weeks not just about a female harris hawk but also about my attitude to whats around me life is more than just work
