Has anyone had any success at crows or magpies - say with a cast of male harris hawks.

My male Harris used to take crows out of trees and nearly paid the price a few times, they're tough old birds. I had to change hunting grounds though, I flew him too late in the year and he learned he could get a cropfull out of their nests a lot easier.

LOL Shaun,

That must have been a pain.

One of my hunting grounds is next to a rookery, and although I have never had a bird take a rook.

One good thing is you can allways see where they are, just look for the flock of big black brids circling, your harris will be underneath somewhere.

Seriously a note of caution, if your bird does take a crow or a rook, you should be hurdling fences to get to them, it is not unknown for a harris to be killed by crows.

I have a male who regularly takes pigeons, but we have yet to take a magpie, although he has had a few goes, along with blackbirds!!! but he is just not quick enough... just as well for the blackbirds, but I wish he would take the magpies.  The thought had crossed my mind to get a longwing to take the magpies, there is ever such a lot down here in the kentish coutryside...... Anyone had any experience hunting them?

Happy hunting all

hey pal,

have taken both crows n magpies with male and female harrises but not on a regular basis you can take quiet a few crows out of the car window with a decent male but maggies are too quick off the mark and a mainly taken by mistake. if you seriously wanna do some damage to the maggie and crow population get a spar and fly it out of the window at them. You'l have some great laughs and take plenty a lad round our way did 100 a couple of years ago we did it last season and had a good laugh will send owen some pics so he can put them up have also got a short video clip aswell.

all the best
