Hope this isn't a daft question. My son and I have recently acquired a Male Harris Hawk and manning seems to be going very well so far although not flying free yet. Having purchased a beautiful (and expensive) glove it is sad to see it becoming caked in blood, yolk etc + I'm sure its not hygenic for the bird. As the glove has a rough suede type finish it does not seem appropriate to use grease or water on it. How does everyone keep their glove clean and presentable- or don't they bother?
I use a brush designed for cleaning suede shoes. This is a soft wire brush, but beware, you may find that a glove will only last you a couple of seasons using this method, but it is the best method I have found.
As owen says, a suede brush or old stiff tooth brush is your best bet, did you treat your glove before using it (ko-cho or neats foot oil)?
I never feed my Harris' yolk sacks for a number of reasons, they're full of fat and cholesterol sometimes making it hard to hold a bird at flying weight and as you've said they make a real mess of expensive gloves. Have you ever thaught about using a different glove for feeding e.g. A cheap welding gauntlet. Hope this helps.
