Hi there people can anyone point me in the direction of useful bird of prey forums and sites??
i am looking to move on from my bengalese eagle owl to a harris hawk at some time in the future and would like to find out as much information as possible about them...
Ukjay ive recently got an african spotted owl its quite like the bengal eagle owl ,so you said your half way through your manning did it all go to plan ,so how far are you up to now ,id like to know as ill be starting to train my owl soon m8,as for the harris hawk a lot of lads on here have got them and they say they great birds in all aspects ,hope your training goes to plan .
Well all i can say is at times it hasnt gone totally to plan and is a case of persaverence i am just getting his weight about right and he is getting a little more eager flying to fist now but still a little delayed but not as bad as at first
Jay so how old is the owl now ,mines six weeks old and i can hold him on the fist im trying to get him to jump to me fist ,he,s jumping and trying to fly round the house ,i tried today to get him to jump to me fist but no joy ,im going to cut out his feed tonight and see if he,s more eager in the morning im only going to try it once if it wont work ill leave it a few weeks more until he,s a bit older ?
Hi johnny my owl is about a year and a half and has never been trained or flown he was just an aviary bird...
tonight all the persavearence payed off food item on glove whistle and woosh along he came six times in total so am well pleased. Are you trying to imprint your owl ??? if so leave the training for a while mate.. if properly imprinted it should come to you no probs
Joe your doing well if its been in the aviary for a year and it was,nt tame , Ive got this book called training birds of prey its says in it once the bird is flying round the house see if you can coax him onto the fist ,i was,nt going to starve the bird for a few days ?
What i did was give him a good feed the day before and i was going to cut out one feed to see if he,d be more eager the next day to jump to me fist ?I think ill leave it a few more weeks yet .
