Johnny, place the meat in between your forefinger and thumb of your gloved hand, hold your hand out to the right side of you dont stand face on and make sure the owl can see right passed your gloved hand.  Brandish the food and call your owl blow your whistle before and when your owl is eating.  The whistle is so the bird will recognise sound and associate this sound with food.

Hope thats sounds ok for you.

Alright Johnny,

I'm no owl expert (had a couple of Euro E Owls) but if you're imprinting your owl I'd forget training and putting your bird in the aviery for a few weeks yet. You need to keep the bird with you 24hrs a day if possible to imprint fully. Whatever you do dont try to cut a six week old birds weight down, you're asking for all sorts of trouble if it becomes mal-nurished. Keep it well fed and with you as much as possible, do it right and you wont be able to keep the little fu**er away from you, never mind jumping to the glove

Keep us posted

Joe i got up the morning  had a coffee me owl was squawking ,i ignored him for an hour to make him more keen i put me glove on and cut his chick up ,he jumped on the arm of the settee so i whistled as you said i put me arm out put the meat on the glove and teased him for a minute ?

Abracadabra he jumped ,and again ,he did it six times after that i just let him feed off the glove with the rest of the meat .

Thanks for the advice

Is it a record he,s only six weeks today ,lol

I must be the owl whisperer.

Johnny give your owl as much food as you can while its so young there's plenty of time to get it comming to the fist.  Owls like other birds are susceptible to rickets and other adnormalities if they aint fed a good amount and variety of food.  What are you feeding it on at the moment.

Not as many outcast as there used to be johnny in Latchford still some good lads there though.  I'm 42 ****ing hate saying that.

Its good your feeding your Owl a variety of foods.  Pylons can be a danger to all things Johnny. Dont worry to much about it though.

lol, thanks for reminding me about my forthcoming fifty'th birthday Johnny I will make sure I send you an invite to the birthday bash.

Cheers

Alright Johnny Harris hawks are great birds mate.  I'm sur you will make a good falconer, already you have got some permission.  You buying a young hawk or 1 thats been entered (Hunting game).  Some people fly their birds through the moult Johnny just as in they would fly in the wild. Not sure if I agree fully with this. But every1 has a right in their own choice in matters.

alright jonny,

on the subject of time to train a bird there all diffrent mate as a rule a harris will take bout a month to 6 weeks, the quickest ive done one is 9 days after taking out of the avairy to its first kill but that was in scotland and it was lifting with rabbits, the bird was a very special harris aswell the one mentioned in a previous post
