The best moment in falconry without a doubt is wen you get a lost bird back that youve been searching for days its nice wen yuo get your first kill or wen the bird flys free or flying a home bred bird at game but it is truly breath taking and heart stopping wen you see you buddy that youv'e lost on his way back too you.
Rob i bet the best moment was when the bird was lost and you found it ,i was reading this story the other day about this guy lost his bird and was searching for hours in the end he gave up as he was going back to his 4x4 it was sat on the roof ,,he said that each day after flying he,d give the bird a good feed before he went home ,what a relief .
My best ever falconry moment was at a show in Scotland. There was another guy there who was obviously super rich- he had brand new gear and loads of hawks, all in a huge top of the range landrover. He was really smarmy and kept drivng home the point that he felt he was far better than me. We both flew our hawks at some pigeons that came of a nearby field, and my Peregrine, Frodo, predictably dissapeared. The guy was smiling and showing off his gosshawk, who had caught the pigeon and come back perfectly. Suddenly, Frodo came roaring over his head, landing ong my glove and staring at the man haughtily. His laughter cut out very quickly as he realised what the large white splatter now covering his designer hat was. He left very quickly, and at my club all it takes is a mention of the 'Frodo Hairstyle' to get everyone laughing!
Ivan its a good one that ,it reminds me of when i was at chester zoo with the kids ,as we were coming over this bridge i felt this warm most patch land on me face i licked it and knew straight away what it was me son and daughters where laughing there heads of and proceeded to tell all the visitors happened ,ill never live it down ,
I was lure flying my Lanner/Saker last year on an RAF camp, anyway he decided to f**K off after Rooks 1/2 a mile away, so out came the Yagi and off I went. Eventually found the Tag still in the tail mount with 2 battered tail feathers attached, the Rooks had given him a pasting and he was no where to be found. Searched till dark but had to call it a day so I went and rang the IBR. To cut a long story short, my bird was found half an hour after I'd lost him, he'd landed on the roof of an old mate of mine who I hadn't seen for years, about 2 miles away. Turns out my mate got into falconry a couple of years ago. My bird came straight down to the glove for a chick and I picked him up next day. Me and my mate Gaz now fly together every weekend! Double Bonus!!
