plz could anyone help i have a year old harris that has just finnished her moult. and ive taken her up and just getting her accustomed to the sites and sounds again as her wiet goes down but she is being rather aggressive towards me, bating and trying to foot my face or ungloved hand. she did do this a little when i was training her in her first year but stopped half way through the season. do i need to worrie or should i just carry on training her and hope she groes out of it when she is hunting again? because i am very worried as i do like my face and hands lol. she has allways been over aggressive on everything kills other harris. any help or comments would be much appreciated

kind regards ashley ps i did hear of one tecknique that falconers use for aggresive eagles, is to hold the birds beak when they try to attack. but am not keen on that idea but as im still a novice  i dont know. thanks again.

I am no expert, but i have noticed that with my Harris he is much better behaved when on hunting weight. At the moment he is 1:14 and hunts at 1:6 1/2, I find it quite ammusing that he swears at me if i offer him food at this weight. I think you should man her as much as poss while bringing her weight down and things will get better as they did before.

cheers mark

Hi Ashleyhwaker

How was your 1st season? what part of the country are you flying? I bet its been good to see those immature colours change to the darker mature plumage.

:o yer she is flying free now and is my best friend again lol. well im in the south was in london but moved to berkshire now, loads of land now its great in the country, was quite hard flying a bird in london just the training aspect was the hardest cose i could go out to find hunting land but wanted some where close to train her. hopefully this season should be good as i only let her have 1 kill per outing on most ocations. hope the season is going well for you and happy hunting. ash

hi there, i was reading about the aggressive Harris and thought that someone out there may be able to help with a slight problem i have. My male harris is a cracking all round bird with a fantastic appetite for hunting. The only thing i would change about him is that he is very, very animated about his flight, (shelter). i have tried to have him at a relatively high weight and drop it before hunting forays, and have tried to keep him tight on a flying weight but nothing appears to help. he is for ever flying about his flight and hitting things, flying at the mesh etc.

ive put up soft nylon mesh to save his feet and cere on the weldmesh, and ive put in foam to soften the blow on the wooden framework. this helps prevent injury but is only a precausion to a worse injury.

if anyone can suggest something which may help that would be great. he is free all the time and i would not want to change that, and also, even during the moult when at top weight he will still do this.

all this flaffing about has resulted in a damaged cere which is taking forever to heal and as soon as there is some improvement "bang" damaged again.  as i mentioned, tethering him is the last thing i want to do.  any advise or help would be much appreciated.  cheers, colin.
