Hello all Ive just bought this cracking book off amazon ,the books called A really useful owl guide it said in it that bengal eagle owls are good to start off with ? Im thinking of buying a harris for myself and a bengal for my seven year old son does anyone think im taking to much on having 2 birds we have the room for 2 big aviarys and a big garden to train them in ? Yours faithfully Johnny ashton
Personally I Wouldn't let my kids anywhere near an Eagle Owl unless it was on my glove which kind of defeats the object. Bengalise are ok and can be silly tame if imprinted properly but if it isn't they are prety dangerous, I've got a pair on eggs at the moment and i'm not looking foreward to removing the chicks!!
If you're serious about getting a bird, get your aviery up first, get plenty of land then start with a Harris, forget the Owls, their fairly useless as a falconry bird and the larger ones are too dangerous for little kids.
Thanks for that advice shaun its better to ask the pro,s instead of jumping in head first ,ill still build 2 aviaries in case i feel in time i can feel competent enough to handle owls ?
