I didn't put my male harris down to moult until late (May 20th) and hence he is just starting to fly again.
He's nippy little guy, flies at only 1 6 1/2 right now, so today we went out hunting for the first time this season and........ BINGO
Lovely little female pheasant. What a start to a season :)

Nice one Owen

The first of many for you no doubt! I haven't had such luck, since my little male Harris took his first rabbit he's been a nightmare. For some reason he's decided to try the 'smash and grab' approach when being called back to the glove, trying to snatch at titbits rather than land. He flew good as gold last season.

Ever had the same problem?

Shaun,

Thanks, I hope the first of many :)

So your little fella?

A couple of questions...

How old is he? (How many seasons has he flown?)
How ong has he been flying this season?
What was his flying weight at the beginning of last season? and at the end?
What weight are you flying him at now?

How often does he do the "Smash and Grab"?

Fester does that sometimes, but only when he is mad about something, just seen a dog usually.

He has on more than one occasion when I have had to use a whole chick to get him out of a tree, left me with the head, whislt he has taken the body back up to the tree.

Either post the answers to the board, or mail me at Owen@falconersmews.co.uk.

Happy hunting

Owen
