Anybody want to tell me any useful information they might have on caring for and flying Red Tails?
Thanks!

Aaron,

Without doubt the best first step is to read as much as you can.

Find your local falconry club, or falconry centre, and ask advice if you can.

Falconers in general are quite a friendly bunch.

You will be lucky to find anything in your local library, but you can ask them to get certain books for you, even better if you can buy the books.

I would suggest:

Understanding the bird of Prey by Nick Fox

Falconry art and practice by Emma Ford

Falcony and Hawking by Phillip Glasier.

Hope that helps

Owen

I fly a large male redtail who has taken rabbits and hares and he loves squirrel.
Housing he is keeped in a 6x8foot mews (big enough to leave him free for the moult)
Equip squirrel chaps are a good idea if you have them where you fly,red tails seem to be drawn to them.very strong dummey bunney, hood if you can get him to where it.
Food will eat anything i give mine quial once a week when he is hunting chicks the rest of the week during the moult quial every other day
