Can anyone give me any information about applying for a licence to keep birds of prey ,im a little bit green and trying to get into keeping birds of prey i be grateful for any advice .
Alright Johnny, Your taking your time getting a bird! Well done, there's plenty that rush in! Are you the same Johnny Ashton that posted on Parabuteo World (Nov 2002)? If so you must have read every book going in that time.
You dont need a licence to keep birds of prey mate, anyone can just go and buy one, unfortunately. I think its about time some sort of regulation was introduced before our sport gets out of hand and birds start to suffer at the hands of unprepared keepers. Not quite as tight as the U.S. Aprenticeship scheme but I think a regular check on the condition of falconers birds could prevent a lot of suffering to captive birds of prey.
what about birds that breed in england like the barn owl or buzzard ,is it just that when you get the bird off a breeder that it has to be registered?
And if so who does it have to be registered with ?
am i complicating things or am i talking shxt ive been up since half five so this could be the problem just that i dont want the armed response round me house again ,lol
It was me in 2002 .as my sons been getting older Ive been wanting to get into hawking for years ,and now he,s 7 he,s eager to get into hawking ,we are not that bothered about hunting just getting into looking after birds of prey and learning them to fly it would be my dream to watch him flying hawks with me ?may be boring you guys to death but i aint bothered ,its my dream
You are absolutley right, if you bet a bird from a breeder you will need an article 10, to show that it was captively bred, this will be provided by the breeder.
Anything that is not indigenous to the UK, anyone can just buy and fly, as Shaun rightly said.... sad but true.
Good Luck, and don't forget to buy all your stuff from Falconers Mews :)
