Hi all, I recently visited a local hawking center and having watched the display team am now hooked on falconry. Could you reccomend a couple of books, videos, etc that would be helpful before i get my first bird. Also I would like to hear more about grouse hawking where or how could i do this? Thanks in advance Gareth P (wales)
Try reading, "Falconry & Hawking" by Phillip Glasier & "Understanding The Bird Of Prey" by Nick Fox for a start.
"Grouse Hawking" I would forget it for at least 5 years! Its probably the hardest form of falconry there is to do to any standard. Even if you're lucky enough to have permission over 1000's of acres of moor you're going to have to train a couple of high pitching Longwings and a decent pointer and then hope, that once you've trained them, they perform in the field.
